我个人标准是
刚成立没多“长”时间的字幕组可以放弃 （除非是那种实在没别的组做的作品）
比如WOLF 冰封一类

The timing might be more important than the quality. In addition, some smaller subs often give up the translation and you are forced to switch to another sub.
My personal experience is that Sumisora is quite reliable, and they often translate DVDRIP, which is quite important if you really like that anime.
P.S. Honorable mention: Personally I quite appreciate HKG A-T because their comments are very funny.

Me too.
P.S. I love HKG A-T not only for their comments,but also for their titles.(They always have a different title for an anime from other subs)(exsample:School Days they translated:fucking in school)

gal游戏改动画首推澄空。
高达，机器人系列首推漫游，花园
YY类首推HKG，其次才是澄空
内涵类，冷门片首推X2
若需要深入了解故事背景，首推KPDM
极影是实力派，基本什么字幕都可以胜任吧
基本就是以上这些
不过我这里还要说一下KPDM
claymore就是KPDM与天方瞳名合作所出
MF是与EDEN合作所出
可以确保在相关领域的权威性
