I'm fine with either, even though I can't read any Japanese characters at all (I use a couple programs that translate Japanese into somewhat-readable English in real time).

Having said that, there are still a lot of sentences with meanings that I can't really make a good guess at (which makes following a plot with some depth really tricky), but overall I do okay with it. If anything some of these works are more like visual novels rather than actual games.

Since RPG games are more about exploration, turn-based/Pokemon-style fighting (sometimes), and most importantly: quick and relatively simple dialogues, the fictional situations are much easier to follow. My only real complaint about most Japanese H-RPGs are the fighting mechanics (assuming they're turn-based and similar to the Pokemon games, which most of them are). They get boring pretty quickly since it seems like any RPG game with a fighting sequence uses that as the only way to defeat an opponent, and it gets old really quickly when you play all the various RPG games only to realize that as far as the actual game play goes, they're mostly the same with very little variation. Hopefully a game makes up for it though with exciting CG and effectively representing whatever fetish genre it was advertised as.

So I don't mind an adventure-themed visual novel/game, but RPGs are (for now), my favorite way to play an H-game (because let's face it, there really aren't any good H-games out their on the same tier as some of these (non-pornographic) AAA games that massive developers make, which is unfortunate because you'd think there would be enough of a market out there for such a company to be profitable if they made AAA-H-games, hell if I knew anything about game design I would organize a team of people over the Internet and try to take a crack at it myself).

I personally enjoy games made by Alicesoft much more than most console games.....

I don't like RPG games as it usually to takes too much time doing the same things(leveling up, collecting items/materials, etc.), and it takes no brain to play...

H-RPG can at least excite me with some ..interesting scenes when I'm about to fall asleep...

I like games like Advance Wars and Vantage Master, which require you to think carefully, and you can also enjoy a story... but unfortunately no one makes these kind of games anymore...

Most erogame makers don't spend too much effort making a good battling system, because Japanese players don't care about it... You can easily find that out on getchu. The best selling games are usually visual novels with good stories, graphic and voice acting.

RPG sometimes requires the player to pass through some certain mazes and fight with the monsters you meet (often fight in turn) ,while ADV focuses more on the daily conversation with the characters. It is hardly to say which is more interesting. I like ADV better, maybe, since I played too much RPG's kind of games when I was young.

I prefer rpg to adv but sometime its different like comparing ChuSinGura 46+1 to bunnyblack, i'll choose without a doubt ChuSinGura 46+1.
And concerning learning japanese all you need is watch anime, like i did.
you'll be able to play nearly any game with mecab.

Aboslutely, we can use some kind of language tools to help us read the VN. It doesn't trouble as you expected to be.
作者: watch07    時間: 2014-02-09 02:29
I prefer both of them, anyway (Adv) Many guys (Me too) need some English patch to run the story
My favorite company is Alicesoft "Rance series", he is the most perverted guys

I can understand a bit of Japanese, though the story is what matters. I kinda of base it through the voice tone.

Hey Wutermelon! what program do you use?? because my japanese is very poor too

Hey I don't check this site very often, so sorry for the late response. I use two programs actually:

The first is Interactive Text Hooker (ITH), which extracts the Japanese text from the game and copies it. Then the second program, Translation Aggregator (TA), takes that copied text, runs it through a translator, and then displays it as English. I used a guide to set up those two programs along with some other programs and utilities. I don't think this site will let me paste URLs though, so Google "An Aero-Gamer’s Guide to Using ATLAS" and it should be the first result.

ATLAS is central to that guide, although I think (and I could be wrong here) that you could get by on only ITH and TA as the bare minimum setup without installing any translators or other things on your computer, but you would have to have TA use an online translator such as Google Translate (also note that using Google Translate via TA will NOT allow you to look up dictionary definitions of Japanese characters that additional components would allow you do, such as Mecab). For that (and other) reasons, I would recommend doing as much as the guide says.

I'm probably in between. I started rpg when I was really young, and I still like them pretty much, but advs are good, too, there are also a lot of those that had been translated already, and they're pretty good.

i've no problem playing a rpg game or an adv game

i guess it depend on the person taste

I personally prefer playing RPG game. However, I will go play any ADVs with good stories and good characters. I usually find that rpgs can keep my attention for a longer period of time, especially if the game has somewhat of an engaging story. On the other end, for an ADVs to retain my attention for an extended period of time, the story must be very good.

Same here, I preferred RPG eroge more than ADV as you have a sense of effort to get the CG.

Im tired of rpg actually ADV's more like novels while rpg wastes me too much time on meaningless processing

I'm too prefer ADV's without time wasting grinding. Console RPG's like 'Tales of' is okay but PC ones with ero are too much like online games focused on mindless grinding.
作者: ososso    時間: 2014-06-25 19:45
I don't like rpg since I hate repeating leveling up.  If you get bored of adv just because of your poor japanese, you can try some good advs with English translation. Muv-luv, White album2, Bible black(really ero,but has good plot), saya no uta(I think it is the best work of my favorite writer Urobuchi Gen).
